(excerpted from RDNO Media Release August 21, 2025) The Regional District of North Okanagan (RDNO) is pleased to announce construction of the Greater Vernon Cultural Centre will begin the week of August 25, 2025.

The Greater Vernon Cultural Centre will be a dynamic, architecturally striking facility that brings together the Vernon Public Art Gallery, Greater Vernon Museum, flexible presentation spaces, classrooms, and a lively outdoor plaza. Designed by Revery Architecture with construction managed by Sawchuk Developments Ltd., the Centre will serve as a dynamic cultural hub that will celebrate arts, heritage, education, and community connection.

Construction activity will begin the week of Monday, August 25, and will proceed in phases from Fall 2025 through Spring 2028. Regular work hours will be Monday to Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with occasional weekend work as needed and with advance notice.

Key construction phases will include:

  • excavation and civil works
  • Concrete and structural construction
  • Exterior and interior finishing
  • Landscaping and plaza development

The RDNO and the City of Vernon are working together to ensure commuters, businesses and visitors are well-informed and supported throughout the construction period. While some traffic delays and noise are expected, the RDNO is committed to minimizing disruptions and will implement dust control and other mitigation measures throughout the project.

To accommodate construction, the 31 Avenue parking lot will partially close, with a portion remaining open for hourly and daily parking. Drivers are encouraged to explore nearby parking options by visiting www.vernon.ca/parking. Signage, online updates, and other communications will help direct users to alternative hourly and monthly parking options. The City will continue to monitor parking availability during construction and provide updates as needed. Any additional impacts to parking, road closures, or detours will be communicated in advance.

To celebrate this exciting milestone, a ground-breaking ceremony will take place on-site prior to construction start. Details are available here. The Cultural Centre will be a cornerstone of downtown revitalization, supporting cultural expression and community connection for all residents, including Indigenous and multicultural communities.

The RDNO thanks the community for its patience and support as we embark on this transformative project. For questions or concerns, please contact communityservices@rdno.ca or stay updated on the project at www.rdno.ca/gvculturalcentre.
